My nesting needs are crazy strong in this pregnancy, perhaps because it’s a girl this time? Whatever the reason, it’s legit crazy and I have spent way too much money nesting. I’ve had to come up with some creative ways to satisfy my nesting urges because you mamas know it’s basically impossible to say, “No,” when your pregnancy tries to get you to do something.

Since I had to come up with these ideas to help myself, I thought I would share them with you all, since I’m sure I’m not the only one who has spent way more money than necessary because of nesting urges (right!?). Comment below and tell me that I’m not alone. Please.

Nest Without Going Crazy & Spending #allthemoney

1. Make Decor Collages

I have created decor collages for most of the rooms in our house (because it never seems like we can completely finish decorating a room before we have to focus somewhere the baby’s nursery, ha) and I have so much fun doing it. I personally use Photoshop to create my boards but if you are not comfortable with Photoshop, The Homes I Have Made has a great post on how to make a design board.

Creating a Decor Collage is pretty simple, here are the steps I follow to create mine.
     a. Create a Pinterest board of inspiration
     b. Choose a color scheme
     c. Start shopping and save the items to a Pinterest board
     d. Save images of the items you want to use
     e. Put those images and colors in to a collage

To the right, you can see a few of the collages I have made for my own home.

2. Get Thrifty

Instead of buying the first item you find, search around for a better price or check out the thrift store or consignment shop for something similar. Don’t forget to check Craigslist or post on Facebook to see if your friends have anything they would be willing to give you, trade for, or sell to you for a good price.

3. Check Dollar Tree

I LOVE shopping at Dollar Tree. I used to be wary of it, there’s only like two nice ones in our area, the others are a little sketchy so they always turned me off from shopping at the Dollar Tree. Plus, I doubted that there would be anything decent for only $1. Then I stumbled across Dollar Tree videos on Youtube. Did you know people actually make videos sharing what they find at the Dollar Tree and the fun DIY items they make with Dollar Tree products. I decided to try it out and I am so glad I did! You can find some super cute and useful things at the Dollar Tree!

As far as decor items go, you can always find storage and organization bins and boxes, glass containers to use for decor or storage, fake flowers that are actually good quality, and so much more. Check out some of the items I found for you, from the Dollar Tree, below. Click the images to visit them on the Dollar Tree website and note that they are all affiliate links.

4. Use What You Have Around the House

I so wanted to finally style some open shelves that we have in our kitchen but I could never get it quite right. Then I decided to gather a whole bunch of things from around the kitchen/house and I played around with items I already had, to create styled shelves that I’m finally happy with!

5. Help Someone Else with a Decorating Project

Do you have a friend who just bought a new house? Ask if you can get your nesting urges out by helping them decorate! Or you can join a home decor Facebook group where people post decorating questions to get opinions and ideas. I really love the Nesting with Grace Facebook group, everyone is so helpful and so creative and the admin, Brooke, does regular Facebook lives answering decor questions and sharing tips. Her blog is amazing too.
